Rarely, do I miss opportunities of being inspired by ocassionary interesting readers of the publications titled Career Dynamics in the 21st Century, as well as Living Beyond Survival: No More Tiptoeing in Life. This week, I met just one of them, with whom we interacted under very difficult circumstances in 2019.

Upon being involved in a serious accident in May 2019, the Neural Surgeon taking care of me, eventually referred me to an ENT ( Ear Nose Throat) specialist for further attention. Though heavily on crutches, I managed to visit Dr. Kimani at his Kenyatta Hospital based Private Clinic. Somehow, I had some copies of my publications with me. The doctor still referred me to yet another specialist, who specifically deals with the hearing system, but was first, attracted to 3 issues.

How did you get involved in the accident in the first place? Secondly, my spouse, a teacher in one of the Nairobi based National schools, could also be interested in your publications. Thirdly, could the same be helpful to our children, who are spread across secondary schools and universities? After satisfying Dr. Kimani with the various clarifications, he took home the 2 publications, for the interests of the family. A few weeks after, the requisite remittances were safely received.

Apparently, I had thought that the matter had come to an end. But this week, we bumped into one another with Dr. Kimani, in our family members club, two years since meeting him in his clinic. Though I couldn’t recall him, the publications were still fresh in his mind. It’s exciting to meet you, while back on your feet, said Dr. Kimani.
Me: Yes Indeed, I’m thankfully back on my feet.
Dr. Kimani: I know you may not recall me, but I acquired your publications when you came to see me in my Kenyatta Hospital private clinic, while on crutches.
Me: Wow! I can recall you mentioning about your spouse, a teacher in a Nairobi based National School.
Dr. Kimani: All of us including the children have read your books and they are highly educative. What inspired you to write such educative books, now seemingly aligned with the new curriculum-CBC?
Me: It is a long story, but in brief, I had constantly noticed that more than 80% of employed Kenyans were dispationate about work, amongst other challenges, as I trained in organizations. While researching on this, I further realized that more than 50% of Kenyan graduates are either unemployed or unemployable.
Dr. Kimani: Those are serious challenges. How could they be sorted out?
Me: I traced the disempowerment challenges to the school system, and as a solution, I wrote the KICD approved Career Dynamics in the 21st Century, that was eventually used for architecture of the Competency Based Curriculum-CBC.
Dr. Kimani: I can confirm that your efforts are quite commendable. We no doubt chose our careers, but that doesn’t always mean that we did it right.
Me: Thank you, but the only issue is that the reach to all has been quite limited, since education authorities considered a futuristic approach towards solving the disempowerment challenges. Nevertheless, efforts of people like you, serious educational Institutional managers and others have no doubt impacted positively on our future leaders.

In the meantime, our continued invitations for conducting numerous seminars for teachers and students or both in different schools spread in varying counties, as a proven empowerment strategy in the 21st Century, is still quite inspiring. Imperatively, every effort of empowerment of our future leaders counts, doesn’t it?
