Have you ever watched our 1 hr DVD titled Leadership Strategy in the 21st Century? If you ever acquired more than 10 copies of Career Dynamics in the 21st Century, before 2019, you were most likely rewarded with a FREE copy of the DVD.

The content is related to that of many leadership seminars conducted in different forums. Numerous mainstream churches particularly, took full advantage some years ago. Combined with talent alignment seminars, we have at least 45 engagements either as guest speaker on Sundays or various seminars in numerous branches of mainstream churches between 2015 and 2018. That was before extending our empowerment mission to counties beyond Nairobi and Kiambu, our earlier focus.

The DVD itself had been recorded while conducting a leadership seminar for the elders of a certain church, based in Nairobi. The ideas shared not only borrow from biblical, but also philosophical principles, all of which are applicable in our every day to day lives.

There has been exciting feedback from the various beneficiaries of the DVD. Particularly, one principal from a Gatundu, Kiambu secondary school acquired a copy of the same in 2018. The eventual feedback was that after watching the DVD once, he invited his fellow principal living in the neighborhood, for the two to watch together and then exchange ideas. Why revisit the issue of this empowerment tool?

This week, I found myself in the company of three senior citizens who are well known to me. As I joined them, a forth one had just walked away, and his situation was the subject of discussions. Why?

That senior citizen was a retired senior policeman, who had acquired massive wealth during his days in employment. The perceptions of the three wazees, about their friend were quite divided. Particularly, was the wealth acquired worth being admired or feared by virtue of seemingly being obtained through dubious means?

After listening carefully to the various revelations, I wàs eventually invited to share my views. “You teach leadership in Churches and other forums. What is your view about people acquiring wealth through dubious means, as is very common in our country?” enquired one of the senior citizens.

My concern wás; how can senior well educated citizens admire somebody who has acquired wealth through dubious means? Dubious this time refers to kickbacks, sleeze, grabbing property and so on.

In my leadership seminars, I keep referring and being guided in real life, by principles articulated in the Book of Numbers 14: 18 which says, ” Our God is very patient with us, but when he gets angry, he punishes upto the third and fourth generation of our children.” Does this make sense? I asked the senior citizen friends, who were now seemingly perplexed.

How exactly does that apply in our real lives? Wondered one of the senior citizens
Me: I will ask each of you a very simple question. Think about your rural homes. Do you know of any individual whose riches are associated with grabbing public property or any other interests meant for improvement of lives of the villagers? Just consider how successful that person has been. How successful are the children of those, who have since left this world?

After those questions, it became like opening a can of worms. Each of the senior citizens came up with examples from their villages. They brought out examples of a senior chief, accountants, engineers educationists and also a former police commissioner. Personally, I came up with nationally known examples, whose lives of their families became miserable after bequeathing of the dubious wealth.

Eventually, we all agreed that we should each do what is right not only for our benefits, but also, those of our children too. In that spirit, rewards keep coming at the opportune time, as indicated in the book of Galatians 6: 9. As such, it seemingly pays to consistently do what is right, as we each continue contributing to the improvement of the welfare of humanity, doesn’t it?

FYI
The empowerment seminar for a school in our rural home neighborhood, happened smoothly on 17/10/2021 as had been envisaged, for the 6 stream form 2 class. Two days after, we as usual delivered the seminar evaluation report based on the documented remarks made by students, under supervision of 3 guidance and counselling teachers.

Upon meeting the principal, she made revelations of the feedback already made by the teachers. “The students had two more years to be in school, yet the seminar included preparing them for life beyond school,” they had indicated.

The truth is that students should be prepared to be like eagles which ably catch their prey after noticing them from a distance of 10 km away. As such, all 21st Century Students should be visionary and able to strategically align their knowledge and skills with the eventual opportunities attributable to each of them.

That and numerous other perspectives is what influenced KICD to approve Career Dynamics in the 21st Century for circulation in Kenyan Secondary Schools. Seemingly, we are through our seminars already implementing what the CBC is expected to achieve, aren’t we? More invites regarding empowerment of our future leaders and their mentors, still very WELCOME!!
