Since the beginning of the current academic year, we have in the last two weeks been back into our empowerment mission that focuses on our future Leaders as well as their respective empowerment agents. We have alongside had quite some experiences in a number of counties.

For example, we have learnt that exam leakage is now quite a challenge. Exam markers interacted with confidently confirmed the same, but can’t do anything about the menace, beyond reporting their experiences. This is worrying, isn’t it?

Further, there is great concern about continuity of the Competency Based Curriculum – CBC, especially after the August 2022 elections. The truth is that reversing the philosophy of education in this 21st Century is a herculean task.

However, the implementation modalities can be revisited, since that is the main challenge. In other words, the 8-4-4 system could have easily been transformed without any infrustructural disruptions. The most critical attention could have been on the empowerment modalities, since there has not been any drastic change on content.

We have at the same time encountered teachers, who participated in the recent TSC programs meant to prepare all for the CBC. We have been excited to learn that those who have read the KICD approved Career Dynamics in the 21st Century have easily grasped the direction of the education system.

They now find it easy to not only understand the philosophy of CBC, but also the technicalities involved. This is quite critical since the 8-4-4 system, still has 6 years to go, before becoming fully scraped. All the same, the 8-4-4 students are not in any way exempted from the mentalities of the 21st Century, isn’t it?

JFYI
We have continued gathering results of performance of schools, which embraced our empowerment seminars for teachers as well as students, in the last academic year.

Schools that have embraced both our teachers’ and students’ seminars have continued to shine brightly.

Schools that have embraced teachers’ seminars only have also continued doing quite well – we are in any case polished Trainers of Trainers (TOT) for many years. What of those where only guidance and counselling teachers took were involved?

Apparently, some of the teachers never managed to read our publications, hence challenges in the necessary follow-up. In future, it seems inevitable to involve entire teaching fraternity or class teachers at the minimum. Why so? Teachers can only give what they have, isn’t it?
