Some of the occurrences happening around us, just pass without their impact being taken seriously. Recently, KENYA’S Supreme Court gave freedom of association to Lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer and/or questioning (LGBTQ) members. How this ruling affected the school system needs to be of concern to all institutional managers.

But first, Chapter 3 of Career Dynamics in the 21st Century clearly illustrates the two mentalities that influence success or otherwise in our lives. We will naturally venture into ‘Abundance mentality’ whenever we make choices generally guided by intrinsic influences.

While guided by that mentality, we believe that we are capable of getting whatever we want in life. We naturally become passionate about whatever we engage in. If in school, learning becomes fun all through and through. Actually, all energy ends up focusing towards positive activities.

If out out of school, work/careers equally become fun all through. Alongside, we acquire the deserving rewards in every situation. It becomes unnecessary to engage in commonly known negativities.

Conversely, when we make choices guided by extrinsic factors, we mostly venture into scarcity mentality. We end up believing that we can’t get whatever we desire in live. It becomes survival for the fittest, just like in the animal kingdom. It’s each man for himself and God for us all.

If in school, learning becomes punishment. Obviously, nobody loves being punished. Avoidance of that punishment is what leads to different levels of indiscipline. Students could be involved in disagreements with teachers, peers, parents and so on.

Others will get involved in drugs aiming to reduce stress associated with what is perceived to be punishment. Is it not the same situation that leads to burning of school dormitories and other facilities?

Meanwhile, when scarcity mentality prevails, schools become the breeding ground of drug addicts. According to NACADA, 2 out of 5 students aged between 14-25 years are addicted to drugs. They could actually be more. What about Lesbianism and Gayisim? Even in the absence of statistics the situation could now be very worrying. Why so?

While addressing the impact of scarcity mentality in a school seminar recently, the teacher in charge requested that we have a short discussion, thus releasing the students for a short break.

“I have just been informed that two girls have been found to be lesbians. To make it worse, they have tattooed the names of each on their hands. This Lesbianism is a major problem in our school and it affects the school performance. Is there any way you can bring it up in the seminar?” Asked the concerned teacher.

This development was devastating. Personally, I have never brought out these negativities during seminars. The only related thing I am fond of highlighting amongst the various negativities is that Idle minds end up becoming the devil’s workshop. As such, besides involvement in drugs and other vices, idle students have impliedly time to seek pleasure through Lesbianism and Gayisim (though unmentioned).

The good news is that when students follow their natural orientations and become properly aligned, based on the guidance provided, they become passionate about studies. That improves their learning culture. It becomes easier for them to have the right focus or strategic direction.

Eventually, indiscipline and distractions by various forms of negativities, becomes reduced. In the end, improved performance happens naturally. Imperatively therefore every effort of aligning the empowerment strategy of our future leaders should be made, aiming to safe them from the impact of negative orientations, isn’t it?

FYI
We have never been counselling experts on drugs and now lesbianism and gayisim. We however know very well that these negativities originate from conditioning of our sensory system. Nobody was meant to behave unnaturally. However, when situations become attractive in that regard, the negativities becomes the norm.

But, can the negativities be reversed or avoided? On a number of ocassions, we have been engaged by some schools experiencing various forms of negativities. We have also been engaged by family groups experiencing the same. Our solution has been extremely simple.

Align all with their natural orientations, as they experience the empowerment process. This has definitely worked quite well. As such, don’t give up on those negativities. Their impact can no doubt be minimized, if the right expertise is embraced, isn’t it?
