This week has been quite exciting especially with regard to interactions with an authority involved in the implementation of the Competency Based Curriculum – CBC. Though the interactions were informal and mainly associated follow-up of a meeting, of February 2023, the impact of the efforts cannot be taken for granted.
But first, many educationists including those in this forum have been posing to me one question, which I have never been able to satisfactorily answer. Why have you never been involved in the implementation of the Competency Based Curriculum – CBC?
My answer has been simple and straight forward. “I have never been invited for the exercise, by those in charge of the same. Perhaps things would have been different had I been a university professor.” Why has this question been so frequent?
Those who have read and understood the the KICD approved concept titled Career Dynamics in the 21st Century have easily been able to relate the content with the flow of the the CBC. In any case, page vii of the 3rd edition of the concept, clearly illustrates that the same was used for the architecture of the CBC.
Nevertheless, failure to be directly involved in the implementation of the CBC has never been of any concern. Why so? Sometimes, I am comforted by the biblical principal of 1st Peter 4:10, which says “use your God given gifts to serve others.” It doesn’t say that you do the same only when requested. Further, it doesn’t indicate whether you will serve others freely or you will be compensated.
However, if you don’t use the gifts, they will become wasted and they will not help you in any way. Further, Mathew 25: 29 says that those that don’t use their God given gifts, they will be taken away and given to others. Verse 25: 30 specifically indicates that there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth for those who fail to use their God given gifts.
As such, it makes sense to use the God given gifts whatever the eventualities. Do you recall Galatians 6:9 which says “never tire doing what is right; rewards will follow you at the right time?”
Guided by those biblical principles, it becomes easy to share ideas that will be beneficial to the society. In any case, how will it ever be known that one has abilities that may be helpful to the same society?
Meanwhile, in February 2023, we met with this principal who is not only a PhD Scholar, but also a member of the presidential team involved with the reforms of the education system. My first reaction was to pinpoint some misgivings of the ongoing implementation strategy of the CBC.
The principal was fully in agreement with my sentiments. What do you think should be done? wondered the principal who quckly acquired our two publications, for personal use. So, my concern this week was to find out whether the presentations made sense to the principal.
Principal: Oh yes, they made a lot of sense and that led me to presenting them to the education reforms team.
Me: What about the publications? Were you able to read them?
Principal: Not as yet. I think I handed them over to the careers teacher or a member of the education reforms team. Can I have yet another set for my personal purposes?
But before you leave, I would want to invite you to make a presentation during the schools career day for the form 4 Class on a day already set.
Me: Thank you, but my presentation on the same lasts 3 hours.
Principal: But, we can’t get such time on that day.
Me: Let me know when you can afford 3 hours even for any of the other classes.
As the discussion flowed, we were formally booked for a 3 hour empowerment seminar for the same form 4 class.
Why share this information? The main idea is to prove that these biblical principles are a reality in our lives. This principal has never met me before and was not introduced to me by anybody. The attraction was simply my empowerment involvements of those in the 8-4-4 system, as well as continuing contributions towards the implementation of the CBC.
Are you there and aware of your God given gifts, but still withholding them? Remember, they are either intellectual, physical or both. Why not let the world know of their existence? More still, why not let those future leaders under your care to discover their God given gifts through existing and well tested empowerment solutions?
As an Institutional Manager, the measure of excellence today should be how well you have aligned our future leaders with the mentalities of the 21st Century. Based on these perspectives, you may never know when the deserving rewards will abundantly follow you.

As I interacted with institutional managers this week, I was confronted with a question from one of them. “I love your extremely incisive writings, but sadly have not been able to ask questions or share my own ideas,” Revealed the principal, who has been more than 2 years in the forum.
But Why so? I wondered.
The truth is that Career Dynamics Forum is free for all the followers. They largely comprise more than 95% readers of our 2 publications titled “Career Dynamics in the 21st Century and Leaving Beyond Survival: Noore Tiptoeing in Life.
Right now the Forum has more than 270 followers. As has normally been explained when introducing new entrants, 80% of the members of this forum are principals of secondary schools, spread in different counties in this country.
Another 10% includes Deputy Principals and eventually 5% of participants include guidance and counselling teachers. as well as career counseling teachers. The remaining 5% takes care of the interests of County Directors of education, Sub-County Directors, Quality Assurance Officers, university lecturers as well as members of the BOMs. As such nobody in this forum is a none educationists Feel free therefore to contribute in the forum knowing that everyone in this forum is a stakeholder of the education system.
