The usual institutional managers that we constantly interact with, were this week busy in Mombasa attending to their issues of concern. Though I have personally addressed them during two annual national conferences in the recent years, I was this time unable to join them, for reasons beyond my control.

Of great concern to all as realized however, is the process of embracing the transformation of the education system from the Junior Secondary School – JSS to Senior Secondary Schools- SSS, which happens in the next 2 years or so. How prepared is the SSS system for the JSS?

The concept titled Career Dynamics in the 21st Century is what made yours truly to become involved in the school system, based on 2 perspectives. On one hand is solving the dis-empowerment challenges in the 8-4-4 system. On the other is transformation of the education system through the Competency Based Curriculum – CBC.

In 2016, the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development – KICD classified the ideas disseminated through our publication as EMERGING ISSUES. The truth is that the issues are today an irreversible reality. This I believe can be confirmed by each and every senior educationist who has embraced our publications as well as seminar titled “Re-Creating the Future Today,” that has been conducted in numerous schools.

It is in this seminar that we enable the educationists to understand and align with the mentalities or paradigms of the 21st Century. Teachers end up transforming their attitudes and strategic direction in life. They also become improved role models for the benefit of our future leaders, under their care.

In fact, how else can we explain the feedback on teachers re-entering school to realign their knowledge and therefore career projections? This can easily be confirmed through checking our You Tube channel.

As the CBC continues being entreched, we will be available to help teachers in fast-tracking the process of aligning with the paradigms of the 21st Century, wherever invited. Alongside, we have now developed content associated with the Junior Secondary School – JSS. We have also commenced conducting research on the practical weaknesses associated with JSS, aiming to hopefully provide the requisite empowerment solutions.

Obviously, our empowerment strategy has always focused on seminars for secondary school students, their teachers and also teachers of primary schools. With the secondary school system now falling into two categories, we have no choice, but to align our empowerment strategy appropriately.

Most importantly, every educationist needs to understand that the CBC has three key components. They include the Philosophy, technicalities and infrastructure. The latter two attributes could be perfect, depending on the implementers, but if the philosophy is misunderstood, then the CBC could end up becoming a cropper. That philosophy is largely what keeps us continually interacting with the school system.

We are now set for preparing those undergoing empowerment in the Junior Secondary School – JSS. However, after perusing through the official structure of the Competency Based Curriculum – CBC, we have realized that all teachers concerned need to be properly alert on the dynamics of the CBC. Why so?

Aligning with the respective career pathway is seemingly a continuous process. That is totally different from the 8-4-4 system, which has had various stages of making choices, during the entire empowerment process. So, are the JSS teachers properly aligned for the execution process of the CBC? Your guess is as good as mine.
