As the year nears the end, it may be necessary to appreciate the efforts of each of us, regarding contribution towards improvement of the welfare of humanity. In any case, every educationist is in one way or the other influenced by this philosophical perspective, isn’t it?

Meanwhile, what memorable experiences may continue inspiring you as you focus towards the desired achievements of year 2023? Foremost of the considerations in our case, is looking forward towards excellence of the future leaders, who passed through our hands, as they prepared for the exams, whose results are expected in January.

Particularly, it was during the year 2022, quite exciting being engaged in different schools spread within 6 counties. The seminar experiences in each of the schools spread around Tharaka Nthi, Muranga, Machakos, Nairobi, Embu and Nakuru Counties are quite memorable.

Still, we are thankful to schools in the same counties and others, where our empowerment ideas were embraced even of just through acquiring our game changing publications. The most outstanding experiences were impromptu engagements that happened in three schools, spread around Nakuru and Embu Counties. Luckily, we are ever ready whenever called upon whether the engagements are for teachers’ or students’ seminars or both.

Notably, the impromptu engagements are initiated by institutional managers themselves. In one case however, we initiated the impromptu seminar ourselves. This is seemingly quite unusual, but it happened, all the same.

As variously shared in this forum, never tire from doing what is right, as rewards will follow you at the opportune time (Galatians 6:9). Imagine when this aligned with your purpose in life! In our view, these principles are very real and we strongly believe in them.

In this regard, one Leading school in Machakos County had in April 2021 booked for a seminar, which was later postponed. We completely forgot about it, until sometimes in May 2022, when we were alerted that our cheque for the seminar had been deposited in our bank account. This was surprising, since the seminar had never happened. Under such circumstances, what could have been in your view, the right response?

In our case, we drove to the school the following week and requsted them to arrange for the seminar since, it had already been paid for. The institutional manager was unavailable. As such, a decision couldn’t be made immediately, even after formally expressing our desires.

Nevertheless, we continued waiting for the school’s communication on the matter. In October 2022, we realized that both the academic and calender year were coming to an end, yet we still had an outstanding seminar that had been paid for. One Monday, in October 2022, we just drove to the school determined to accomplish the engagement, once and for all.

Upon arrival, the institutional manager was luckily in the school. After being welcomed in the office, after a long wait, the discussion was quite short. “We have been waiting to be engaged for the paid seminar, but have now become impatient. Since, it has never been our interest to take advantage of such situations, we have come to conduct the seminar today,” I indicated.
Principal: Thanks for coming. Sadly, the form 4 class are preparing for exams and may not benefit from your seminar.
Me: That is fine, but our interest is to clear the outstanding issue. Please allow us to handle the form 2s and 3s, plus their class teachers.
Principal: That is in order. Give us a few minutes to organize ourselves.

At exactly 3 pm on the same Monday, we were set for the seminar as agreed. The seminar followed our usual procedures and ended at 6.00 pm. Finally, the students filled our usual seminar evaluation forms. Interestingly, quite a number of students were aware and had read our publications, already in the school library.

However, the students were concerned that the publications were too few and they needed more to reduce the reading ques. On the basis of this feedback, we drove back to the school, the following morning. Unexpectedly, we met the principal at the gate, while heading for a meeting and paused for a chat.
Principal: I have gotten feedback from the teachers and students too. The seminar was beyond our expectations. It was very professionally executed.
Me: Thank you but, the students indicated need for more of our publications. You only have 5 of one and 10 of the other. You need a set of at least 10 more of each.
Principal: How much is a set?

After indicating the price, the principal instructed that we leave 3 sets of the publications with the secretary. “We will pay before the end of the week,” the excited principal indicated. And sure enough, the cheque for 60 copies of our publications to add onto the earlier 15, was ready for collection by Thursday, the same week, as we were eventually advised. Why share, this experience?

Rewards, will keep following each of us, as long as we continue doing what is right. We have continually been sharing these ideas during our empowerment seminars. Imperativly, it makes sense to share our real life experiences on the same.

As such, we will in the same spirit, continue contributing towards the improvement of the welfare of humanity, especially through empowerment of our future leaders and their handlers too. We believe this makes sense, doesn’t it?
