The communication last week revolved around experiences of Principal RR of Laikipia County. As explained, there was so much shared during our recent meeting that lasted from 4.00 – 7.30, that may be of interest to every teacher. As such, allow me to bring out yet some other lessons that are worth sharing. But first, how did Principal RR become a teacher?

Upon finishing school, RR was admitted to pursue a course in Telecommunications Engineering, which did not seem attractive to him. The father of RR was uneducated but nevertheless, it was his responsibility to educate his son, in the best way possible. This time he needed to counsel his son, towards pursuing what he loves, as he had done for the older children.

When the son indicated interests in teaching, the old man had no objections and only required the son to identify the desired learning institution and all that was required, for the father’s attention. The desired change was achieved without much struggle.

Eventually, RR became a passionate physics teacher as opposed to a telecommunications engineer, as could have been the case. The wise counsel of the uneducated father became part of RR to the extent that he has over the years, enabled numerous students to pursue their passion.

A number of them can be highlighted, but of great interest was his own sister, the youngest member of the family. Once she finished school, the sister indicated that her passion was to become an accountant. Based on the assessment of RR, the girl was immediately sponsored to pursue the Accounting Technicians Course, followed by Certified Public Accountants qualifications, which she successfully completed.

Alongside, she had on her own acquired a job in one of the government ministries. Later, the sister to RR was able to pursue a Bachelor of Commerce Degree specializing in Accounting and is today a senior Kenya government employee. A great feat indeed, isn’t it?

Meanwhile, when in the extra-County School as a deputy principal, RR decided to find out how the form 4 class was being guided on course selections by the Careers teacher, one day. RR was disappointed by the efforts of the Careers teacher.

He immediately took over the session and guided the class well, based on the lessons from Career Dynamics in the 21st Century, which he had carefully assimilated. He also instructed the Careers teacher to take the contents of the same concept seriously, for her to excel on her future career guidance sessions.

That probably explains why Principal RR acquired enough copies of our publications for use in his new school. The main reason is to ensure that none of the teachers or students is likely to doubt the source of the Principal’s source of knowledge on the 21st Century empowerment strategy. Seemingly, the education system needs more and more teachers of the caliber of Principal RR, doesn’t it?

FYI

Meanwhile, we wish success to all the candidates of the 2021 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examinations- KSCE in all Kenyan Schools. However, formal Success Cards have been dispatched for students that have experienced our empowerment seminars.
