Not everyone is excited about the achievements in the 2022 KCSE results. Media reports and evidence from exam markers and invingilators clearly indicate that the KCSE exams were definitely irlegular.

No matter how vehemently the government denies the illegularities, how can anyone justify a sunden increase of 19% (28000) for those qualifying to join universities? All the same, all is not lost for those who may have performed dismally. That is so especially if the candidates can heed the advice of the Late Professor Magoha.

It is about how one can build on whatever grades that have been achieved. It doesn’t matter whether one is an A or D student. But, how can one maximize on what may seem to be pathetic grades?

Those who have read the KICD approved Career Dynamics in the 21st Century must have come across some interesting real life case studies. That of Angelica, an almost complete failure in both primary and secondary schools is definitely outstanding. Imagine, she could only marginally pass Mathematics, but eventually became a Certified Public Accountant – CPAK.

The 13th case study in the 3rd edition of the same publication is equally outstanding. Yours truly had sometimes in 2015 pleaded with his former classmate to acquire the first edition of this publication. Why? Revelations that Captain (his real title), had lost a whole investment of Kes 2 m while intending to make his first born daughter a pilot, became of great concern.

Sending the girl to a leading university to pursue a business degree was equally disheartening. She deserted the studies. Captain was only noticing her baking cakes at home, from which she could make a few coins.

After reluctantly acquiring Career Dynamics in the 21st Century, lessons learnt led the young girl to be taken back to school this time for a catering course. Not long after, the girl was firmly back in the air, this time as an Air hostess. No wonder, one year after acquiring our game changing book, Captain personally called for delivery of yet another copy of the same. Why? The first one had been borrowed by his nephews and nieces and they were not in a hurry to return the same.

Another case witnessed in the mid-January is somehow similar to that of Captain. In September 2019, we had sought the services of a data recovery firm, having lost the same through collapsing of our laptop. Musa, the data scientist assigned to us became inquisitive and wanted to know about our publications. Eventually, he acquired both of them and started reading.

We never reconnected with Musa untill recently, when we encountered yet another data challenge. Upon visiting Musa, his response to greetings was quite unusual. “Wow! This is a God Sent opportunity,” Musa indicated.
Me: Why so?
Musa: I have been wanting to call you but, the issue keeps escaping my attention. I read your books and they have re-defined my approach towards life. Unfortunately, the first one titled Career Dynamics.. disappeared with Diana, my cousin and she has never returned it.
Me: Had you read the same?
Musa: Yes, but I need to keep refering to the same, though unable to recall it from Diana.
Me: Why so?
Musa: Before leading the book, Diana was quite frustrated. Upon acquiring grade D in KCSE exams, the parents decided to sponsor her for a course in hair dressing. She lost interest and was sponsored for fashion design course. Diana still lost interest as she had insisted on pursuing a catering course instead.
Me : Why were the parents rejecting Diana’s preference?
Musa: I have no idea. But, when Diana read the book, she forgot about relying on her parents. Instead, she somehow secured some little capital and ventured into business as a fruit vender. Today, Diana is stationed in a Kajiado county town in the outskirts of Nairobi. She specializes in delivery of fruit salads in offices, with the help of 5 employees. The business is continually expanding and Diana nets at least Kes 2000 every day, even as she plans to eventually venture into hotel business.
Me: A great self discovery story indeed. Musa: In that regard, may I have a replacement of the book taken away by Diana. Why share these real life experiences?

Nobody should lead to desperation on account of achieving pathetic academic grades. In any case, we each have personal default settings, which are meant to lead to our desired success in life. We only need to discover these settings to be able to face life with confidence. That is why our empowerment strategy (through our publications and respective seminars) is embraced by all categories of schools.

It doesn’t matter whether they are sub-county, County, Extra-County or National Schools. Most importantly, even D students are able to acquire the right focus or strategic direction in their lives, once they embrace our strategy. In any case, the Competency Based Curriculum – CBC, is meant to sort out disempowerment challenges for all, whatever the intellectual capacity, isn’t it?

FYI
It is still early in the term. As such, we are yet to know performance of most of the schools that embraced our seminars in 2022 and even before. However, in one Nairobi based Sub-County School that we empowered towards the end of last year, the mean-grade shot from 2.1 – 2.7 and at least 4 candidates qualifyied to join university. That was the lowest mean-grade associated with schools that have so far embraceed our empowerment Strategy.

In another Extra- County School based in Kiambu, where we had conducted 3 seminars since January 2020, their mean-grade increased marginally from 6.5 – 6.6. However, the situation of students’ attitudes, focus and discipline levels encouraged the school to embrace our strategy for the 4th time.

In that regard, a seminar for the 7 or 8 stream form 2 class happened last Friday, 27th January 2023, as the students were just about to venture into a subject selection exercise. As an institutional Manager, could your school be wondering how to transform the strategic direction of the future leaders under your care? Don’t take chances. WELCOME for PROPERLY TESTED and ACCREDITED EMPOWERMENT STRATEGY that is aligned with the thinking of the 21st Century.
