Sharing the situation of teachers in the country with some principals this week, led to some issues of concern. Remember that only 10% of teachers ventured into the career by choice. Seemingly, the balance were influenced by extrinsic factors. Luckily, an additional 40-50% of teachers ended up loving the career, after settling down.

That means a balance of about 40% teachers are dispassionate about their work. Could their working life be tantamount to punishment? Definitely. In fact, it leads to obvious signs of frustrations that are associated with occasionally unpleasant norms.

One principal sought to know whether there is any help for dispassionate teachers. “It is common for such dispassionate teachers to have challenged attitudes, particularly about work. This naturally leads to challenged performance and commitment to duty,” said the concerned principal.
“Alongside, the influences of such teachers, to their colleagues and students too are not always desirable,” I added.

The good news is that the causes of these challenges are now well known. Sadly, it is difficult to refer such dispassionate teachers to a documented solution. It is best to take them through something similar to a counseling session, mainly aiming to transform their perceptions.

Wherever opportunities of sorting the same arise, we are always excited about the eventual feedback, as is evident @

As such, it is advisable to take action rather than leave the situation and impact of dispassion to fate, isn’t it?
