Understanding and Applying the Philosophy of CBC is Critical for the Transformation of the Education System

Thursday 5th, October 2023 was the World Teachers Day. Congrats to the 490 Kenyan Tutors that were recognized for their excellent achievements. As a member of the teaching fraternity, what may have occurred in your mind on that day? Could it have been about the challenges that teachers are continually experiencing as they empower our future leaders? Or is it more of the challenges the students are experiencing, as their empowerment continues?

After interacting with contents from university academia and other educationists from varying educational sectors, yours truly had a holistic view on the continuing transformation of the education system. What comes to mind is consideration as to whether the transformation is achieving the desired objectives. If not, why?

All educationists need to realize that the education system in Kenya is still in this 3rd decade of the 21st Century and sadly guided by the paradigms of the 20th Century. Education is still about acquiring knowledge that is eventually supported by certificates that will lead one to acquiring lucrative jobs. But, is this expectation being achieved?

Today’s teacher, policy maker, politician and others in various leadership positions are still influenced by these 20th Century Paradigms. Are the university academia entrusted with transformation of the education influenced any differently?

Upon acquiring the power to read and do what appertains to the degrees conferred, some of us avoided the academia route. Instead, we ventured into application of knowledge already acquired, through research and professional training as workplace trainers. Based on our credentials, we were promptly and are still accredated by the National Industrial Training Authority.

Whenever engaged by varying organizations, we learnt great lessons on the challenges in the workplace, which we realized originated from the school system (Check sample @ https://youtu.be/6VRl8113sZU?si=1DTKt42BUAC9kJvJ). Eventually, we channeled our empowerment mission towards schools as well, soon after publication of the concept titled Career Dynamics in the 21st Century.

Our ideas were immediately embraced by university academia, who interacted with our publications. In the process, we were invited to conduct seminars in various public universities, especially during their career days. We were also invited for interviews in the media, the most notable one being of a university TV station, on January 16th 2016 ( check https://youtu.be/7ugg17N6978?si=wR7HGw1CrONdyAiv). Alongside, we decided to concentrate on a Bottom Up Empowerment Strategy right from secondary schools. Why that focus?

In our publications and seminars too, we passionately reveal that the World has evolved through 5 eras, as a means of achieving improved efficiency. Currently, the world is in the talent era of the 21st Century. But is our country their yet?

Until the Competency Based Curriculum takes full shape as expected, we will continue being influenced by the information knowledge era of the 20th Century, as well as the industrial era of the 19th Century. The latter is about employment of the human capital without any consideration of quality performance and the respective rewards.

Information knowledge era is obviously associated with employment, based on the certificates that one has acquired. It doesn’t matter the value attributable to the efforts of those employed. It also doesn’t matter their level of application of knowledge. That is why we tend to be a copy and paste nation, which keeps on borrowing ideas from other countries.

Meanwhile, the transformation of the education system through the CBC is what guides the country towards transiting to the talent era. Notably, talent era recognizes both intellectual and physical talents. Essentially, the power to get what we deserve in life, lies within each individual. This is largely what influences the philosophy of the CBC.

Until this philosophy is understood clearly by all educationists as well as policy makers and applied by all those undergoing the empowerment process, majority will continue focusing on the technicalities and infrucstractural perspectives of the CBC. Under such circumstances, achievement of the aspirations of the CBC may end up becoming pipedreams. Luckily, the same can easily be avoided, can’t they?

FYI
Did you know that alignment with paradigms of the 20th Century or those of the 21st Century greatly contributes to our attitudes, strategic direction, as well as learning perspectives?

That is why some teachers re-join school for alignment of their knowledge after our seminars (check feedback @ https://youtu.be/cMhRi4V350Y?si=VYRjE7xiZKiRxdHm.) Students are able to determine their strategic direction during their empowerment process.
WELCOME for more!!!
