Having encountered a life changing course on philosophy, during my empowerment process, of I sometimes, fail to understand how Kenyans think or reason. Perhaps, my views could be wrong, but over time the truth naturally presents itself. The script extracted from the Sunday Nation of 13th February 2022 says it all. The same actually jogged my memory on issues that may be of interest to all educationists.

But first, just about the end of year 2021, I had a lengthy discussion with an educational journarist of one of the leading newspapers. I extended him enough time to assess the ideas that were used for the architecture of the Competency Based Curriculum – CBC, through Career Dynamics in the 21st Century.

Eventually, the journalist dismissively indicated that he had read the implemention concept that had been written by the professor concerned and was satisfied of his contribution. Sadly, he indicated that I could have referred to the same when authoring Career Dynamics in the 21st Century. Really?

One lady officer then in charge of verifying the compliance of publications presented for KICD approval, had totally believed in the content of Career Dynamics in the 21st Century. She referred the same to the then KICD research director, who gave the concept a nod. It was eventually agreed that it had provided a homegrown solution to the transformation of the education system. This information is clearly illustrated in the 3rd edition of the concept, which is in possession of each of the education bigwigs in MOE Headquarters, Jogoo House, Nairobi.

Alongside, the then KICD based officer provided to me the contact of the Professor who was driving the architecture of the CBC, so that we could work together. That was in mid 2016, when I contacted the Professor and informed him of my authorship and that I had been referred to him by KICD. The professor indicated that he was operating between Eldoret and Nairobi and once in the latter, he was to contact me for discussions. That was the end of the matter.

Further, I was referred to one KICD director for engagement as a Trainer of Trainers – TOT for KICD team meant to disseminate the new knowledge to teachers and other stakeholders, especially with regard to the philosophy of the CBC. Despite my authorship of the concept now recognized as a home grown solution, I was requested to foward a proposal, which would be compared with those of others.

This didn’t make sense to me, since I already imagined that the TEN copies of Career Dynamics in the 21st Century requested for could be in the hands of those concerned with the architecture of CBC. Eventually, the lady officer, who initially identified Career Dynamics in the 21st Century was transferred to Jogoo House as a Deputy Director of Policy, but has since retired. Just this week, we revisited the architectural matter of CBC even during her retirement. What is the message here?

It is difficult to fight application of intellectual talent. The same outmatches professorship, especially if the latter is largely supported by qualification certificates. Some challenges will always arise when the originators of ideas have been left out, by those who have copied the same. Nonetheless, keep in mind that Bill Gates was never a university graduate. Yet, Microsoft which he founded controls 95% of global computer software, since the 20th and now in the 21st Century.

Meanwhile, we are honoured to have this week conducted a seminar for the 2022 form 2, 3 and 4 Classes for one National School. The principal as well as guiding and Counselling team were in attendance. Sadly, the school had terribly been affected by burning of dormitories last term, as was revealed in the public domain. Nevertheless, the school is now soldiering on. Definitely, the students are now aligned to the paradigms of the 21st Century ( see our educational YouTube in this author”s name).

As such , they will now have the right attitudes, focus/strategic direction and are expected to acquire desirable reading culture. All these attributes will lead to improved performance in 2022 and beyond. That is not in doubt since we will continue monitoring the school’s progress, as is normally the case.
